How Scoring Works

The Principal District & Sessions Judge, North Goa (Merces/Panaji) and South Goa (Margao) conduct the on-screen typing skill test for the post of Lower Division Clerk (LDC). Candidates are provided a 300-word English passage to be typed on a computer within 10 minutes (30 WPM benchmark). The test carries 40 marks, and evaluation is conducted on a linear deduction model: each error (spelling, omission, punctuation, or formatting deviation) deducts 1.0 mark from the total 40 marks. To qualify for the subsequent interview / viva-voce stage, candidates must obtain at least 20 marks (50%). Candidates scoring below 20 marks are disqualified.

Practice Tips

  • ›Since 1 error deducts 1 full mark out of 40, accuracy is paramount: 21 errors will disqualify you completely even if typed at 60 WPM.
  • ›Maintain a steady pace of 32-35 WPM and use the remaining 1-2 minutes to backspace and correct any typos.
  • ›Practice typing legal terminology and punctuation accurately, as court typing passages frequently feature statutory references and quotes.
